Twenty young people died in a stampede at the german Music festival in Duisburg last week and two of them were Spanish.

They were killed when a huge crowd of music enthusiasts ,estimated at 1.4 million attempted to gain access to the event through through a tunnel.

This event is one of the largest of Europe´s electronic music festivals.Clara Zapater was from Tarragona and Marta Acosta from Cambrils. They were both studying at Munster University. Both were aged 22 years. Two other Spanish students were caught up in the crush and were slightly injured but allowed home after treatment.

In total over 500 people were injured and one of these is still in a critical condition. There will now be an investigation into what led up to the deaths. It has been blamed on overcrowding and the fact that the crowd had to enter the event through the tunnel.

At the moment it is unclear just why the panic set in but it is known that people at the exit of the tunnel became concerned and tried to climb out of the area and then fell back and were crushed to death.
