Caritas and the Lions Club of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca have asked hotels and leisure chains in the town to help them by donating non-perishable foods to the charities.There is an ever rising number of families in Benidorm that are on the poverty line and are finding it difficult to feed their families.
There has been a huge increase in the number of people who are searching through the waste bins at supermarkets to find packages which are past their sell by dates.The charities are saying that more and more people just do not have the money to feed themselves and their children.
The charities feel that this is a degrading thing for people to have to do in a wealthy town such as Benidorm.It is also a health hazard for those who are searching for the food and for those who are going to eat the food.
The Lions Club and Caritas will collect the food from any establishment willing to contribute or donate in any other way.They will also ensure that the food is distributed to those who are most in need.
