Santa Pola Rescue
There were high seas dramas when a Santa Pola fishing boat came across aboat full of immigrants , on their way to Spain .
The boat was stranded 100 miles off the coast of Libya this month .
The fishermen were confronted with a boat full of exhausted and dehydrated people , 10 of whom had died .
The survivors were taken to Libya but were not allowed to land until diplomatic channels had been cleared . Even then some of the occupants were too scare to go ashore .This is the fifth time that Santa Pola fisherman have intervened in a humanitarian venture such as this .
Seabed Clean Up In Benidorm
THe Cam bank is sponsoring this year’s ” Cetaceos 2008 ” and this invoves supporting 150 divers who are going to help clean up the seabed around the island of Tabarca , Benidorm , Cabode las Huertas , Torrevieja and Santa Pola .
There is a particular type of alga which is growing out of all proportion and is threatening the delicate ecosystems of these areas .

Alicante Tough On Fines
From 2009 Alicante council is going to increase the fines for those breaking bylaws .
At the moment most of these fines are set at 6 euros and they are issued by the local police .
Anyone who urinates in the street , drops litter , washes their car on the public highway etc , can be fined but from 2009 it will be levied at 100 euros for these misdemeanors .
The council is planning to get tough with those breaking these laws .
